Picture by Eastern Projections Guwahati, Feb 4 : Assam Rifles, Tezpur lifted the title in the maiden edition of the Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament. Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, edged past Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) SC, Guwahati, by 2-1 goals in the last league match at Nehru Stadium here today to finish runners-up. ASEB SC, who could have won the title if they had overpowered Oil India by a minimum margin of four goals in today’s match, had to remain content with third place. Assam Police Blues, Guwahati, followed them in fourth place as they could not win or settle for a draw in all their final round matches played here. In today’s match, which was a rather lacklustre affair with both the high-profile outfits of the state putting up a poor show, Oil India clinched the match with an injury time goal by Durga Boro off a goalmouth melee. Earlier, ASEB led in the first half with a 27th minute goal by Nitu Narzary. Though the Duliajan men tried their best to restore parity, most of their moves did not bear fruit in the first half because of poor finishing. The Oil India men continued to mount pressure on the ASEB defence in the second half too and found the equaliser through Mintu Boro in the 76th minute. With the title victory, Assam Rifles have qualified for a berth in the qualifying round of the Federation Cup tournament to be played in December. On the other hand, Moran Town Club, Charaideo, who could not earn a single point in the preliminary round league at Tinsukia, have been relegated to the Assam Club Championship. Assam Rifles skipper Omana Kuttan was adjudged Best Player of the Tournament.

Kamei, Assam Rifles, Tezpur blanked out Assam Police Blues, Guwahati, 4-0 in its last final round league encounter of the 1st Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here today. Th. Thoiba Singh opened the account for Assam Rifles in the 31st minute. Two minutes later, M. Kamei scored from outside the penalty box, catching the opponent defenders and goal-keeper off-guard. In the second half, Kamei struck twice in the 56th and 60th minutes to make it 4-0. On the other hand, a must-win situation awaits ASEB Sports Club, Guwahati, when they meet Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, in the last match of the final round tomorrow. ASEB had defeated Assam Police Blues 3-1 but settled for a goalless draw with Assam Rifles. The powermen will have to win by a margin of at least four goals to lift the title. Oil India had thumped Assam Police Blues 6-0 but lost to Assam Rifles 1-2.

Guwahati, Feb 2 : Assam Rifles, Tezpur, shocked Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, with a 2-1 defeat in a final round league match of the 1st Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here yesterday.

Oil India defeated Assam Rifles 3-0 in a preliminary round match at Tinsukia, but the Tezpur men in yesterday’s match turned the table on Oil India riding piggyback a brace by Bulu Jigdung.

Jigdung drew first blood in the 19th minute capitalising on a rebound off a shot from an Oil India defender. Mintu Boro drew the parity in the 59th minute off a counter attack. Jigdung struck again in the 78th minute off a measured pass from Meikingai Kamei.

Assam Rifles are now in contention for the title having won both the matches they have played and now await their last match against Assam Police Blues, who are yet to open their account. A win against the policemen will fetch them the title.

Picture by Eastern Projections Guwahati/Dibrugarh, Jan 19 : Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEB), Guwahati, opened their league campaign with an emphatic 6-2 victory over 9 Assam Police Battalion (APBn), Nagaon, in a Group A match of the 1st Oil India Ltd Assam State Premier League football tournament at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati today. Assam Rifles, Tezpur, blanked Food Corporation of India (FCI), Guwahati, 5-0 in a Group B match of the same tournament at the Tinsukia District Sports Association ground. In a one-sided first session in Guwahati, the powermen led 3-0 with Bikash Narzinary opening the account in the 29th minute when he pushed in a shot by Dabasis Kundu which was fisted away by opponent custodian Pranab Bordoloi. Striker Sanjeeva Rongpi consolidated the lead in the 38th minute, while medio Mani Kanta Brahma netted another goal in the last minute of the session. Three minutes into the second session, Rongpi struck again off a Nitu Narzary pass. However, teenaged 9 APBn striker Shyam Murah reduced the margin by a goal the very next minute off a pass from forward Amulya Das. Murah struck again in the 81st minute from inside the goalbox to make it 4-2. The powermen went all out once again in the last few minutes and pumped in two more goals. Substitute Prabin Kumar Brahma netted the first in the 88th minute and defender Bijoy Das fired in the other goal in the last minute with a spectacular cross from the right flank. At Tinsukia, the account was opened by the nimble-footed forward Bulu Jigdung in the 16th minute. Assam Rifles led 1-0 at half time. After the breather, the Assam Rifles team took full advantage of the poor FCI defence and netted in four goals. Jugdung fired in the second goal in the 47th minute. It was followed by two goals by U. Kamei in the 65th and 88th minutes. Seasoned striker Abel Sema scored a goal in the 86th minute. On Saturday, Assam Police Blues, Guwahati, blanked Salbagan Sports Club, Gossaigaon, 3-0 in a Group A match in Guwahati and at Tinsukia, Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, trounced Moran Town Club, Charaideo, 3-0 in a Group B match. In a drab affair at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, the policemen took a 2-0 lead with Munindra Sonowal pumping in a brace in the 24th and 44th minutes of the first half. Anuj Gogoi netted in another goal in the 56th minute for the win. Tinsukia saw another drab one-sided affair too, with Jayanta Basumatary (7th minute), Bhupen Gogoi (38th minute) and Stephen Njoh (51st minute) scoring for the oilmen.  There will be no matches tomorrow. On Tuesday, Assam Police Blues will play 9 APBn in Guwahati and Oil India FC will clash with FCI SC in Tinsukia.

Assam down Uttarakhand in jr national soccer

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 – Assam recorded successive victories in the Junior National Football Championship for the Dr BC Roy Trophy.

In their second preliminary group match at Villai today Assam trounced Uttarakhand 3-1. Shyam Murah, Apurba Phukan and Jalendhra Brahma were the scorers for Assam.

Earlier, Assam outplayed Pondichery 10-0 in the opening match on December 25. Apurba Phukan was the star striker in that match scoring four goals including hat trick. In the next match Assam will play against Jharkhand on December 29.

Picture by Eastern Projections Imphal, Dec 25 : Assam Rifles, Tezpur defeated North Eastern Re-Organising and Cultural Association 4-2 via penalty shootout in the final of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament here today to clinch the title. The final, played before a capacity crowd at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, was a goalless affair during the stipulated 90 minutes of play. While Assam Rifles adopted a cautious approach , the North Eastern team resorted to an all-out attack from both flanks. The latter, however, missed several opportunities in both halves. Assam Rifles picked up momentum later in the game after striker Biswajit Singh joined action. However, the team could not find any opening. With both teams failing to score within regulation time, the tie had to be broken with penalty kicks. Assam Rifles held its nerves as L. Shanta Singh, Omkar Rana, O. Kuber Singh and T. Pijendra Singh succeeded in netting their shots. But North Eastern faltered as O. Pitler and H. Chakravarti failed to convert after S. Thomas and Th. Surjit had scored. With this triumph, Assam Rifles annexed the Sir Churchand Trophy along with a cash award of Rs 60,000 while the runners-up received the Khan Bahadur Shemshuddin Khan Durani Trophy, besides bagging a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Ksh. Malemnganba was adjudged the Man of the Final. He also shared the top-scorer’s award with L. Tiken Singh of Southern Sporting Union. Both players scored 10 goals each in the tournament. The Best Defender award was given to K. Regan Singh of Youth Welfare Club while I. Seityasen of the same team bagged the Best Player trophy. S. Lokeshwor Singh of Assam Rifles was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper. Manipur Brothers Sporting Union were conferred the fair play trophy.

Assam Riffles to clash NEROCA in the final

Imphal, Dec 23 : AS THE second semi final match of the 52nd Sir Churachand Memorial CSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2008 concluded today, NEROCA has pre-pared to fight Assam Riffles in the final match which is to be played on December 24 at 1 pm in the evening.

It may be recalled that, Assam Riffles have already entered final after winning their semi final match with MBSU on Sunday.

In today's match North Eastern Reorganising Cultural Association (NEROCA) Sangakpham beat Youth Welfare Club (YWC) Thambal-khong 2-0 and entered final.

It is the third time that NEROCA is entering the final round of CC meet.

One time champion NEROCA and YWC played the semi final match today with all their best efforts.

They tried at their best level to enter the final round.

The first goal of the match was scored by Ksh Malem-nganba of NEROCA by heading a throw-in ball by T Ajitkumar in the 31st minute.

H Amarjit scored the second goal by heading in the 40th minute of the match.

No players of YWC could scored any goal against NEROCA and they had to accept defeat.

Assistant Coach of NEROCA T Ibomcha said that, "We owed the Manipur Police a credit for our entering into the final.

As defending champion NISA was out of the tournament in the match with MPSC, now we have the confidence to win the trophy once again".

YWC had to faced a big problem in today's match as its striker I Seityasen and defender K Regan and L Chandramani were out of station.

Kipgen’s lone goal helped Assam Rifles, Tezpur, into the final of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Memorial Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today. In the first semi-final, the Assam Rifles team defeated Manipur Brothers Sporting Union 1-0. They will face either North Eastern Re-Organising and Cultural Association or Youth Welfare Club, Thambalkong, in the final after the second semi-final tomorrow. Manipur Brothers Sporting Union were more dominant with the ball but their forward failed to deliver. Assam Rifles seemed content to be on the defensive in the first half. Dhanajit Singh mistimed his shot on two occasions. Assam Rifles player L. Shanta Singh made the only threatening shot just before the first half whistle, brilliantly saved by keeper P. Prashanta Singh. Assam Rifles had their lucky break in the 61st minute of play when S. Kipgen scored the only goal of the game. The Assam Rifles team was missing its key forward Akum Ao, who was ruled out with an injury in the quarter-final stages. The Manipur Brothers Sporting Union missed two chances by L. Boipu Doungel and O. Inaocha Singh, who were on an all-out attack.
