Assam Rifles make it to final

S. Kipgen scores lone goal of the day
Imphal, Dec 22 : S. Kipgen’s lone goal helped Assam Rifles, Tezpur, into the final of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Memorial Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
In the first semi-final, the Assam Rifles team defeated Manipur Brothers Sporting Union 1-0.
They will face either North Eastern Re-Organising and Cultural Association or Youth Welfare Club, Thambalkong, in the final after the second semi-final tomorrow.
Manipur Brothers Sporting Union were more dominant with the ball but their forward failed to deliver.
Assam Rifles seemed content to be on the defensive in the first half.
Dhanajit Singh mistimed his shot on two occasions.
Assam Rifles player L. Shanta Singh made the only threatening shot just before the first half whistle, brilliantly saved by keeper P. Prashanta Singh.
Assam Rifles had their lucky break in the 61st minute of play when S. Kipgen scored the only goal of the game.
The Assam Rifles team was missing its key forward Akum Ao, who was ruled out with an injury in the quarter-final stages.
The Manipur Brothers Sporting Union missed two chances by L. Boipu Doungel and O. Inaocha Singh, who were on an all-out attack.
