Lajong eliminate ASRF from Bordoloi Trophy

Guwahati, Dec 22 : With two consecutive defeats in the quarterfinal league, the 2nd Assam Special Reserve Force (ASRF) of Diphu were eliminated from the 57th Bordoloi Trophy Tournament.

In their group A match at the Nehru Stadium here today, Shillong outfit Lajong Football Club routed the Diphu cops 7-0. Earlier ASEB defeated ASRF 3-0 in the opening match of the quarterfinal stage.

The vital point of the match was a hat trick by Lajong striker Rocky Rameng Mawia who scored the second, third and the fourth goal of the match.

In the completely one-sided affair, the Shillong boys took control of the situation from the word go and opened the flood gate in the seventh minute. Taking advantage of the disorganized ASRF defense line, the Lajong frontliners – Rocky, James Gbille and Rohmingthanga jumped into attack and tore apart the opponent’s fort with a series of forays.

Although the Shillong team had to wait for some time after the first goal, Rockey fired three salvoes in the 31st, 42nd and 54th minutes to register his hat trick. After the comfortable 4-0 lead, Lajong attackers were not in a mood to lose the rein and scored three more. James (57th minute), Sachin Khongsit (68th minute) and Rohmingthanga (71st minute) completed the drubbing as ASRF defenders-Mridul Gogoi, Deba Mech, Bolen Ramchiary and Gokul Brahma miserably failed to resist the fast moving and well-combined Shillong attackers.
