2-1 win for Assam Rifles

Guwahati, Feb 2 : Assam Rifles, Tezpur, shocked Oil India Football Club, Duliajan, with a 2-1 defeat in a final round league match of the 1st Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament at the Nehru Stadium here yesterday.
Oil India defeated Assam Rifles 3-0 in a preliminary round match at Tinsukia, but the Tezpur men in yesterday’s match turned the table on Oil India riding piggyback a brace by Bulu Jigdung.
Jigdung drew first blood in the 19th minute capitalising on a rebound off a shot from an Oil India defender. Mintu Boro drew the parity in the 59th minute off a counter attack. Jigdung struck again in the 78th minute off a measured pass from Meikingai Kamei.
Assam Rifles are now in contention for the title having won both the matches they have played and now await their last match against Assam Police Blues, who are yet to open their account. A win against the policemen will fetch them the title.
