APJA inch into last 4

- Asomiya Pratidin, DY 365 and Shillong Press Club win
Inter-media meet
Guwahati, May 23 : Defending champions Assam Photo Journalists’ Association (APJA) and last editions’ runners-up Asomiya Pratidin today made it to the semi-finals of the Leo Advertising Harendra Nath Baruah Trophy inter-media football tournament.
The meet is being organised by Assam Sports Journalists Association as part of the first Airtel North East Media Sports Festival at Nehru Stadium here.
The semi-finals are slated for tomorrow.
The lensmen, today, edged past Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati, 6-5 via tiebreakers after the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.
Asomiya Pratidin edged past Agradoot via a sudden death goal, after a goalless draw and 4-4 draw in the tiebreakers.
DY 365 and Shillong Press Club are the other teams to make it to the last four.
DY365 blanked NE TV 2-0 and the Shillongites edged past Amar Asom 1-0.
In chess, M.A. Venugopal of Shillong Press Club, Diganta Saharia of Janasadharan and Mridumoloy Lukhurakhan of The Assam Tribune led the points tally with full three points each after three rounds on the first day of the two-day Swiss League event at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here.
Seven players — Darshana Goswami, Hildul Gogoi, Manoranjan Bari, Imtiaz Ahmed, Nabajit Talukdar, Nitam Singh and Kalyan Das — shared the second position with two points per head.
Others who have tallied points so far include Madhab Das (1.5), Ajit Saharia (1.5), Gauravananda Talukdar (1), Sushanta Talukdar (1) and Pradip Das (1).
