Imphal, Jan 22 : Youth Welfare Club today edged past North Imphal Sporting Association by a solitary goal in the 2nd Loktak Trophy Football Tournament organised by the All Moirang Football Association at Moirang in Bishnupur district.
Youth Welfare Club netted a penalty to clinch the match in the 43rd minute of the first half.
Youth Welfare Club players showed maturity in tackling North Imphal Sporting Association.
Goals eluded the two teams vying for the semi-final berth from group A for a long period because of missed opportunities. While running deep inside North Imphal Sporting Association’s territory, Youth Welfare Club’s T. Jackychand was brought down by North Imphal defender Abhiraj.
Referee Brojen Singh did not hesitate in awarding a penalty and S. Shyamson made no mistake in netting the ball home. The second half could not bring much of a change as Youth Welfare Club managed to hold fort.
North Imphal Sporting Association and Youth Welfare Club now have three points each. The last league match between Youth Welfare Club and AnoubaImagi Mangal will determine the second semi-finalist from group A.
