Guwahati/Dibrugarh, Jan 22 : Assam State Electricity Board SC (ASEB), Guwahati, inched closer to the final round registering their second consecutive victory in Group A of the 1st Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament in Guwahati today.
Strong contenders Assam Rifles today blanked Moran Town Club 4-0 to continue with their dominating run in Group B at the Tinsukia District Sports Association Stadium.
The experienced Guwahati powermen today came back from behind to edge past the gritty Salbagan Sports Club, Gossaigaon 2-1 in a tussle of nerves at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.
Dominating the proceedings, the Salbagan boys went into the lead in the 12th minute when Madan Basumatary netted a goal.
Pratap Brahma had shot at the nets, but ASEB custodian Prasanta Gogoi fisted away the ball, which went to Basumatary. He wasted no time in shooting it back for the lead.
Conceding the goal, the powermen went on the offensive and found the equaliser in the 32nd minute, when Prabin Kumar Brahma pushed in a shot from Priyo Kumar Singh that was cleared by Salbagan keeper Daoga Brahma.
The second session started with ASEB making all out efforts to gain the upper hand.
They ultimately managed to find the lead in the 67th minute through the boot of Sanjeeva Rongpi.
Rongpi struck when the Salbagan keeper fumbled while gathering a powerful shot from Nitu Narzary.
The ball went out from the goalkeeper’s grip and Rongpi immediately pumped it into the goal.
