Football academy in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 12 : Sports and youths affairs minister N. Biren Singh has proposed the setting up of the Manipur Football Academy soon and also emphasised better treatment for coaches who failed to get their due share.
Singh was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of the North Imphal Sporting Association at Lairen Hanjaba Leikai, Thangmeiband, on Sunday.
The North Imphal Sporting Association has named Benjamin Kamson the Footballer of the Year and presented him with Rs10,000 as part of its yearlong celebration.
Several former players and coaches and functionaries of the association were feted on the occasion. A souvenir was released to mark the occasion.
Singh said, “We are proud to acknowledge that several footballers from the state have found a firm footing in national clubs and to encourage the trend, the state government is contemplating setting up a football academy within the next year.”
He added that the state government was yet to decide where the academy would be put up.
He was also sceptical of the fact that players and football lovers failed to appreciate the service rendered by the coaches, who have moulded the players from the beginning but only to be sidelined when the players join other clubs.
To show that the state government was not neglecting the deprived coaches, they will be feted on the occasion of Sanarroisinggi Numit on February 25 for their contribution to Manipur sport.
Sanarroisinggi Numit is the state’s annual players’ day observed on February 25, marking the day Manipur became the 5th National Games champion in Imphal.
Mayang Imphal legislator Kh. Ratankumar Singh and the president of the association, Kh. Joykisan Singh, also spoke on the occasion.
