Victory for APBn, FCI

Guwahati/Dibrugarh, Jan 24 : It was a cakewalk for 9 Assam Police Battalion (APBn) against Salbagan Sports Club, Gossaigaon, in the 1st Oil India Assam State Premier League football tournament, as they defeated the latter 5-1 in a league match played at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati today.
Food Corporation of India (FCI), Guwahati, also overpowered Moran Town Club 5-1 in a Group B encounter at the Tinsukia District Sports Association stadium in Tinsukia.
Assam Police drew first blood in the fifth minute through Shyam Murah and then consolidated the lead through Royal Mridha and Munna Limbu in the 17th and 19th minutes. Pratap Brahma of Salbagan scored the only goal in the 34th minute.
That was all Salbagan could manage till the eventual winners broke through once again with second goals by Amulya (86th minute) and Murah (90th minute) to bring down the curtains on one of the most one-sided matches of the meet so far.
In Tinsukia, a similar one-sided affair saw Bhaskar Jyoti Borah score three goals for FCI while skipper Thompson Langthasa hit the net twice.
Bhaskar Jyoti Bora scored the opening goal in the sixth minute through a powerful curve shot after capitalising on a short pass by Saeed Ansar. Ten minutes later, skipper Langthasa scored the second goal for his team. This time, too, Saeed Ansar supplied the ball from the right flank. Bhaskar scored the third goal in the 34th minute through a solo effort. FCI led 3-0 at half- time.
Bhaskar fetched the fourth goal in the 69th minute through a powerful left-footer from inside the goalbox. Langthasa got the fifth goal in the 75th minute.
Moran Town Club scored a consolation goal through Khirod Das. OIL FC clash with Assam Rifles tomorrow.
