Aizawl, June 14 : In the first of its kind Mizoram
Football Association (MFA) and Zonet Cable Television Pvt Ltd,
today signed a memorandum of cooperation to organise Mizoram
Premier League (MPL) for which the latter would contribute Rs
25 lakh during this year.
Zonet would have complete broadcasting and commercial
rights and would live telecast all the matches.
The MPL, the highest football league in the state, would
be contested by eight teams and there would be 56 matches in
one season.
Lalnghinglova Hmar, Honorary Secretary of the MFA said
that the amount of financial outlay for a premier league was
apparently the highest in the north east region and expressed
the hope that the MPL would not only hone the skills of the
youths but also alleviate football to a greater heights in the
state.
"If the MPLs are successful as planned, Mizoram would soon
rule the football game in India," Hmar said.
