Lajong edge past HAL 1-0 in I-League match

IMPHAL, Oct 29 – Mizo defender Lallchhuanmawia scored the all important goal as North East India’s only I league team Lajong FC, Shillong beat Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL), Bangalore 1-0 in the round 26 match of I -League to climb top tally, at Khuman Lampak Main stadium here today.

It was in the 71 minute of the crowd pulling I-League match, being held here for the first time in the football history, Eugeneson Lyngdoh’s flag kick was converted into a score of the match by Lallchhuanmawia who came in all of a sudden from their wing.

With today’s win, Lajong got 4 points from two matches and managed to climb up in the team tally. They got one point from their previous match wherein they draws with Pune FC (1-1).

Now Lajong will play against Sports Clube de Goa at Goa on October 31 while HAL, Bangalore against Pailan Arrows at Kolkata on November 2 next. Reacting to the day’s defeat, HAL, Bangalore’s Coach R Thyaharaj said, “We’ve certain factors. We landed here yesterday afternoon so we don’t have enough time for practice”. Team captain Nigerian Joseph Femi Adeola sharing a similar sentiment said it’s quite difficult for us to control the ball in such ground. Echoing a similar view, experienced Liberian striker John D Menyongar of Lajong speaking to media after the winning match, said “We also faced a similar situation due to the unusual playfield but managed to do it being the home ground”. On the other hand both Lajong FC coach Pryadhyum Reddy and Operation Manager Andrew Suting were well impressed with the Manipur crowd in their maiden match here which coincides with the state’s greatest festival-Ningol Chakkouba today.
