Lajong FC camp begins

Shillong, July 15: Shillong Lajong FC will start its pre-season camp from Monday, as a step towards its I League campaign.

The camp will be followed by a pre-season trip around the Northeast where the team will participate in the Independence Day Celebration Football Tournament at the newly laid artificial turf at Aizawl, starting August 8.

“Our Northeast trip would be an exercise to expand our fan base in the region,” coach Pradhyum Reddy said today.

He added that during the trip, a camp to scout for young talent for the under-14 and under-16 teams would also be undertaken.

The region has been feeding the big clubs in the I-League with a steady stream of talent.

Four members of the Shillong Lajong youth team have been selected for training at the academy of the Bayern Munich club in Germany.

The quartet includes Ram Chettri, 14, and Suman Rai from Sikkim, Jacob Lalrawngbawla, 16, from Mizoram and Donbor Nongkynrih, 15, from Meghalaya.

They are expected to leave for Germany on Tuesday where they would be trained for a fortnight at the academy.
