Imphal, July 10: Hanglep Government High School, Churchandpur, blanked Martin Grammar English School by two goals to emerge champions of the Under-14 Boy’s Inter-School Football Tournament for the Subroto Mukherjee Trophy at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.
Hanglep will now represent Manipur in the Under-14 category Subroto Mukherjee title round in New Delhi later this year.
In the final, the Hanglep team showed aggression and gave the Martin Grammar boys a harrowing time.
Hanglep opened their score account in the 10th minute after Jesse Ngamlenmang scored from a header, collecting a cross from the right penalty edge.
The Martin Grammar forwards pushed the limit without any support from the medios. The Hanglep defenders had no difficulty in cutting off any attack, making matters worse for Martin Grammar. Forty minutes into the second half of play, Hanglep Government High School consolidated with their second goal, as Kammingsei, running on the right goalline, popped up a cross to the goalmouth and Phungtanlian had an easy time in pushing home the winning goal.
AMFA secretary L. Ranjit Roy, along with others, distributed the prizes.
The Under-17 Boy’s qualifying rounds will begin tomorrow at Khuman Lampak main stadium.
