Dibrugarh, Mar 26 : Oil India Limited-A defeated Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited 4-1 to claim the champion’s title in the 31st Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Inter Unit Football Tournament, the final of which was played at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan today.
OIL midfielder Ziodin Hmar scored the first goal in the 15th minute through a solo effort. Hmar took advantage of a goalmouth melee to score the goal from close quarters.
Down by a goal, the ONGCL players came up with some good counter-attacks and Jatin Singh Bisht scored the equaliser in the 35th minute captilising upon a well judged through pass from a fellow striker. With the scores equal, the OIL strikers came up with some good moves and pumped in one goal after another, shattering the ONGCL defence. Mintu Boro scored the second goal for OIL in the 43rd minute through a long-ranger, followed by another from right out F. Wary a minute later. Moments before half time, midfielder Prasanta Choudhury scored the fourth goal for OIL to seal the lead.
Both the teams made some moves in the second half as well but could not score and OIL-A won the match by a 4-1 margin.
OIL-A’s F. Wary got the Best Footballer Award and won a cash prize of Rs. 7,700, while GAIL bagged the Best March Past Trophy. Earlier, OIL-B defeated IOCL (AOD) 4-0 to bag the third spot.
The prizes were given away by Subroto Ghosh, executive director, IOCL (AOD) and N.K. Agarwal, resident chief executive, Oil India Limited, Duliajan among others.
District tennis: The 21st inter-district tennis championship will be held at Golaghat Tennis Club from March 28 to 31 says our staff reporter from Guwahati. The meet is being organised under the auspices of All-Assam Tennis Association.
