Assam to host Santosh Trophy

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 – Assam will host the 65th edition of Santosh Trophy Senior National Football Championship.

Informing this, Assam Football Association (AFA) secretary and vice-president of All India Football Federation (AIFF) Ankur Dutta said the decision was taken in the AIFF executive committee meeting held in New Delhi today. Dutta informed that Orissa and Tamil Nadu were trying to take the coveted tournament to their States but due to a strong case presented by AFA, the India football body finally decided to let Assam host the meet. This time the champion team will get Rs 5 lakh while the runners-up team will pocket Rs 3 lakh as prize-money, informed Dutta. The championship is likely to be held in the city here in April-May.

Dutta further informed that this year the prize-money in the Federation Cup has been enhanced to Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh to champions and runners-up teams.
