Punjab held goalless by Assam, split points

CHANDIGARH: Punjab suffered a minor jolt as they played a goalless draw with Assam and split points in Cluster V of the 47th Junior National Under-19 Football Championship for Dr B C Roy Trophy in Kolkata today. With this draw, Punjab have so far earned four points. In their first match Punjab beat Uttar Pradesh by 5-1.

The deciding match in this cluster will be played between Goa and Punjab on June 15.
In Cluster VII, Tripura gave a football lesson to Pudicherry whom they handed out a 15-0 drubbing in a one-sided encounter. It was Tripura’s first triumph and have secured three points from two outings.

Hosts West Bengal are virtually poised to secure a berth in quarter-final league after recording their second successive win in Cluster VII by beating Delhi by 4-0.

The hosts had registered a cakewalk victory against Puddicherry by 27-0 in their opening encounter. West Bengal are now pitted against Tripura in the last preliminary cluster round match on June 15.

Delhi have one win and one defeat to their credit and they complete their Cluster programme on June 15 when they cross swords with Pudicherry on June 15.

In another Cluster V fixture, Goa collected full points at the expense of Uttar Pradesh by 7-1. It was Goa’s second victory from two matches they have played so far. Earlier, they had beaten Assam by 3-1.
