Football Fields Around Europe

Over the past decade, Dutch photographer Hans van der Meer traveled around Europe to capture photos of different types of football (soccer) fields.
The long list of countries he traveled to include: Greece, Finland, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, Holland, Slovakia, Sweden, Romania, Denmark, Ireland, Wales, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, and Italy. In order to avoid the usual scenes, he aimed his camera at the underdogs: lower-league and amateur teams that used only the most basic of ingredients – a scrap of land, two goalposts and 22 players – to ultimately create their own "beautiful game."
