Chandigarh start with a bang in Dr Roy Trophy

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh began their campaign on a whirlwind fashion by handing out a
7-0 drubbing to Gujarat in their opening Cluster III encounter in the 47th Dr B C Roy Under-19 Trophy Football Tournament at the Mohun Bagan ground in Kolkata on Saturday.

Virtually a state-run academy -- Chandigarh Football Academy -- team, Chandigarh completely enjoyed territorial supremacy throughout the match. CFA trainee Rajinder truned out a brilliant performance by netting three times. Other Chandigarh Football Academy trainees Ramanjot Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Sehnaj Singh and Akashdeep contributed one goal each.

Trained by former India captain Tejinder Kumar, a senior football coach of the Chandigarh Sports Department, Chandigarh will tomorrow face Kerala and on June 9 they will meet Mizoram.

In the samd clubster Mizoram defeated Kerala by 4-0.

At the Mohun Bagan ground, Maharashtra secured full points by prevailing over plucky Haryana by 2-1 in Cluster II fixture. In the same cluster, Orissa beat Andhra Pradesh by 4-0.

At the Salt Lake Stadium, Jharkhand beat Arunachal Pradesh by 4-2.
