Manipur, Orissa, Tamil Nadu enter women's football semis

Imphal, March 18 : Host Manipur along with Tamil Nadu and Orissa have sealed their four berths in the 18th Senior women's national Football Championship with convincing wins in quarter final group matches played at Khuman Lampak main stadium.

While Manipur and Tamil nadu advanced to the last four stage with victories over Tripura and Kerala respectively in Group A quarter final league matches played yesterday, Orissa brushed aside the challenge of Haryana for a 5-0 win in a Group B tie played today.

The other Group B match between Assam and West bengal ended in a 1-1 draw, Mani Munda scoring the former's goal in the 51st minute and Puja Karmakar cancelling the advantage with an injury time score.

Margin of victory against haryana on March 19 will decide Assam's fate in the ongoing competition while West Bengal with better goal average than the NE team, could advance to the semifinals with either a draw or defeat with lesser margin against Orissa.

Earlier, Sasmita Mallick scored all the Orissa goals in the rout of Haryana.

In Manipur's triumph over Tripura yesterday, N Geeta Rani opened the score in the 25th minute after which Th Tababi and Ng Bala Devi netted two apiece to bulge the lead.

For Tamil Nadu, S Jeya Lakshmi netted both the goals in the defeat of Kerala.
