In the first match played today, ZFC ensured passage to the next round with a 2-1 defeat of Lamka Sporting Club.
The second match featuring the local favourites NLYC and seasoned campaigners Kuki Sporting Club (KSC), Imphal brought cheers to the local supporters when a penalty award was successfully slotted home for the solitary goal win.
The ball deflected from one of the KSC defenders and hit his hand within the penalty area which the referee did not hesitate in pointing to the dreaded spot.
The KSC despite several substitutions to regain their control of the match failed in their endeavour.
Meanwhile, Zillai - the Vaipheis’ student body will organise a Marathon Race to mark 100 years of Gospel in southern Manipur from Vaiphei Community Centre here to Kangvai village.
P Vaiphei, IAS will flag-off the race that will be competed by more than 200 hundred long distance runners.
