1st Masters' Cup Invitation Football Tournament, 2009 UVSA beats VSAC to win champion's trophy

Imphal, July 05 2009: As The 1st Masters' Cup Invitation Football Tournament, 2009 organised by the All Manipur Masters' Football Association concluded today at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal, United Veteran Sports Association, Lilong Chajing won the champion's trophy after winning the final match played today against Veteran Sports Association Churachandpur (VSAC) in a solitary goal.

It may be recalled that 20 different teams participated the tournament through four groups which was held at 10 different venues.

It was started on June 7 last.

President, Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), MLA Bijoy Koijam graced the closing ceremony as chief guest.

MLA S Kunjakeshwor, Superintendent of Police, CMTW, P Dhanakumar and President, IVFA S Rajen also participated the closing ceremony as guest of honours.

President, All Manipur Masters' Football Association, N Raghumani presided over the function.

Winner UVSA was awarded the champion's trophy along with a cash price of Rs 25,000.Runners Up VSAC was also awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with the trophy.

USSA, Konthoujam won the best discipline teams' title.

Best goalkeeper's award went to Y Khogen of UVSA.

N Bijoy of UVSA was awarded the title of man of the tournament.

Thangchinhao of VSAC won the title of man of the match.

The title of best striker went to N Muhindro of UVSA.

Earlier, in the final match played today.

UVSA defeated VSAC 1-0 and won the coveted champion's trophy.

Although they won the trophy UVSA players found it hard to tackle the players of VSAC throughout the match.

Condition was same on the side of VSAC too.

They found it hard to tackle the players of UVSA.

Both teams' players played the match with full determination to win.

They played the match with almost equal skills and tactics.

The winning solitary goal of UVSA was scored by N Muhindro in the 32nd minute of the match from a ball crossed by his teammate Krishna from the left flank.

VSAC's players tried hard to equalise the score position but their hard efforts went into vain against their strong opponents.

On the other hand, no players of UVSA too could scored any more goal against VSAC and the match concluded with UVSA winning by a solitary goal.
