Former champions Goa edged out Jharkhand 1-0 at Tiruchirappalli while Maharashtra began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Uttar Pradesh in Coimbatore in the Santosh Trophy group league qualifiers on Monday.In other matches, Haryana trounced Gujarat 6-0 while former champions Manipur had little difficulty in disposing off Uttarakhand 9-0.
For Manipur, Reisangmi Vasum scored a hattrick (43rd, 63rd and 89th) while Bisheshwar Singh (33rd and 73rd) and Subash Singh (59th and 77th) added a brace each with Bijen Singh (44th) and Joychandra Singh (92nd) netting one apiece.
Jaswant Singh Parmar (52nd and 54th) scored twice for Haryana who romped home over Gujarat with a goal each from Vikram Saini (16th), Sunil Kumar Sharma (56th), Vivek Singh Karia (68th) and Pawan Kumar (70th).
Goals from Anas Edathodika (31st), Alex Ambrose (55th) and Zahid Ansari helped Maharashtra thump Uttar Pradesh.
