Special committee to monitor national football team’s progress

New Delhi, Feb 20 : The All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) Thursday decided to form a special committee to monitor the national team’s progress.

The committee will comprise chief coach Bob Houghton, three vice-presidents and other members. It will plan team’s preparations for the Olympic qualifiers, Asian Games qualifiers and the Asian Cup.


An executive committee member, however, told IANS that ideally former footballers, who are in touch with modern football, should have been in the committee.

The national team has done quiet well in the last two years, winning international tournaments like the Nehru Cup and the AFC Challenge Cup.

India have also qualified for the 2011 Asian Games and with lot of international matches and tournaments lined-up in the coming couple of years, the AIFF executive committee decided to form a special committee for the team.
