Lajong FC, Royals leave for qualifiers

Shillong, Feb 2 : The future hopes of Shillong Lajong FC and Royal Wahingdoh FC in the form of their under-19 I-League teams have left Shillong today for Aizawl to take part in the Northeast zone qualifiers.

The Wahingdoh squad arrived in the Mizoram capital today and youth coach Bobby Nongbet will guide them.

Allison Kharsyntiew will coach the junior Lajong boys.

Besides the two Shillong-based teams, the Northeast qualifiers will feature two clubs from Aizawl - Chanmari FC and Aizawl FC.

Both Shillong teams play their first games on Wednesday, Lajong against Chanmari at 11am and Royal Wahingdoh against Aizawl at 2pm.

Lajong were formidable in last season's under-19 I-League Northeast Qualifiers, held in Shillong, winning all six of their games to reach the main round.

They managed to finish fourth in the main draw.

Royal Wahingdoh came second in the qualifying round in 2014, losing two games to the Lajong colts, which cost them a place in the final round.
